Copenhagen Guided Walks with a Historian
Walk around Copenhagen with a historian
Maybe you are one of the people who don’t just want to walk around and take pictures of the important landmarks, but you also want to know the meaning behind the places and their significance in the history of Copenhagen and Denmark. Many places in Copenhagen have their own stories to tell, which are mostly hidden from the mass tourists. You can uncover them if you take a guided walk with the historian Christian Holm Donatzky.
Danish kings or Andersen walks
Every weekend (except the winter months) Christian Holm Donatzky talks about the ordinary life and the (not so ordinary) events in Copenhagen and he takes you to the places in person. Each tour focuses on a particular period and characteristics of Copenhagen. On Saturdays you can take a walk focused on the powerful Danish kings of 17th and 18th century. On Sundays the tour’s theme is Hans Christian Andersen and more recent times. The meeting point for both tours is at Højbro Plads (the square in the middle of Strøget) at the Absalon statue (the man on a horse) at 10 am. The tours are in English, take about 90 minutes, and cost DKK 80 per person. Booking in advance is not necessary.
Danish language tours
If you understand the language you can take the tours in Danish. The Danish version starts always the same day (King’s Copenhagen on Saturdays, Andersen on Sundays) at 12 am at the same meeting point.
Private tours and special events
Christian Holm Donatzky also offers private tours or specially arranged tours (for example in a form of a quiz, role play, or contest). You should contact him for more information and reservations. The usual price for a private tour is DKK 1,600 (or EUR 220) for groups under 30 people.
